Orlando Ramos

Candidate for Ward 8 Springfield City Council

I wake up this morning as I always do… in prayer. I pray for strength, I pray for guidance, I pray for wisdom, and I pray to give thanks. This morning I am especially thankful for what I have experienced over the last few months. I’ve learned a lot about friendship; and I’ve learned a lot about myself.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who believed in me. I’m humbled by the overwhelming support I received during this campaign. I thank all of you who volunteered your time to make this possible. From my brother Carlos, Carmen, Yolanda, Emily & Rosah & Odalis and all my friends at SEIU, and everyone else who contributed through advice, phone-calls, lit-drops, canvassing, and/or social media posts. Thank you! So many people to thank, please forgive me if I don’t mention you here.

I also want to thank the voters for coming out to support me, and giving me the opportunity to be their voice at City Hall.

The one person that I have to thank the most is my campaign manager. She was tough on me, but I know that it was for my own good. Each time I was at the campaign office and I got distracted by food or conversation she would put the phone in front of me and order me to get back on phones; and when I got home tired from work and all I wanted to do was lay down and take a nap she would stand next to me and nag me to go knock on doors, and she would not take no for an answer! She gave me advice on what pictures to take; she critiqued my words and attire. She did all of that and still got her homework done before her bedtime. My little angel, my Princess, my beautiful little girl. I could not ask for a better campaign manager; I could not ask for a better daughter. I’m blessed. I love you Baby. I do it all for you.

If nothing else, I hope I can inspire other young people to believe in themselves. If at first you don’t succeed, learn from the experience and try again. I was told by some that I couldn’t win; I guess we proved them wrong huh? Just goes to show you, if you really want something, and you believe in your heart that you are doing it for the right reasons, work for it, pray on it and don’t give up. There is no substitute for hard work.

Very Grateful,

Orlando Ramos
Ward 8 Councilor Elect
