Orlando Ramos

Candidate for Ward 8 Springfield City Council

Proposed Closing of Indian Orchard Post Office

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PRESS CONFERENCE; WEDNESDAY JULY 27TH FROM 3:45 TO 4PM

INDIAN ORCHARD POST OFFICE; 19 OAK STREET

Orlando Ramos—candidate for City Council Ward 8—is calling a press conference today Wednesday July 27th to be held in front of the Indian Orchard Post Office located at 19 Oak Street in Indian Orchard beginning at 3:45 until 4pm. He, along with other members of the community, are expressing concern over the proposed closing of the post office. “Indian Orchard has the highest concentration of senior citizens in the city of Springfield. In addition, there are many low income families living in this neighborhood that do not have their own transportation. It would be a shame to ask these folks to travel miles away for the services that they’ve become accustomed to having nearby. It’s become all too frequent that whenever there are budget cuts being proposed, the poor communities are the first to suffer—and that’s not fair!”

“With an $8Billion loss last year, I am not surprised that the United States Postal Service will be closing some of its branches soon; however, the Indian Orchard branch is vital to the overall function of our community, and must be spared.”
